Your Class Reps

Run by students, for students - we want to ensure you have a strong and valued voice at your college and across #ThinkUHI. The Class Representative System helps students share their views and feedback on any aspect of the student experience - whether it be about learning, teaching, facilities or accommodation.

Every College has a class representative system. This is where your views about any aspect of your student experience can be shared and you have a chance to discuss the things that are brilliant about your college and anything you'd like to see improved!  Read on to find out more about what’s involved:

What’s Involved?

As a rep, you are elected by your fellow students to represent their views.  You’ll attend Class Rep meetings, and feed in thoughts and opinions on behalf of your peers on important issues at your Academic Partner, and at UHI as a whole.

You’ll usually spend no more than 1-2 hours per week carrying out your duties, and you’ll be fully trained on our bespoke Class Rep Training course, brand new for this academic year.

As a rep, you’ll also get exclusive opportunities to attend events and activities as a representative of your class, of HISA, and of UHI.  You’ll get to network with students and staff from around UHI, across Scotland, and even the rest of the UK.

By the end of your term, you’ll have built up an impressive portfolio of skills, which will give you the edge on the competition in this challenging job market.

So what’s in it for me?

  • Become a vital part of Team HISA, helping our local and regional officers to understand what is affecting students right across the partnership.

  • Get the opportunity to represent the views of students, and take these views directly to senior staff via class rep meetings, and other course specific meetings that you will be invited to attend.

  • Assist HISA in making decisions and changes that your fellow students want to see.

  • Take part in HISA’s bespoke training programme, which will give you all the skills and information that you need to excel as a Class Rep.

  • Get the opportunity to take part in further training and educational opportunities throughout the year, to further develop your portfolio of skills.

  • Develop and enhance skills in communication, digital interaction, digital literacy, networking, representation, confidence, liberation and equality, and lots more!

And how do I become a Class Rep?

  • Speak to your lecturer or tutor today, and ask them when your class will be electing their rep!

  • Or, you can get in touch with your local HISA team, who will be able to give you more information. You can find the details for your local team here.

  • Not enrolled to a specific academic partner?  Get in touch with your PAT, or let us know you’re interested by contacting
