I really liked what HISA was doing and first got involved with HISA in the academic year 18/19 through the class rep scheme as I saw some things that I wanted changing. I became more involved with various activities like the Pride march in Inverness and the various trips to London to march in the People’s Vote with HISA. It felt like a community that I was welcomed into in which my views mattered and they cared about what I said.
To make more people feel welcome and heard. To bring into the fold people from all walks of life who feel they have a perspective to contribute.
Marsha P Johnson is a huge icon of mine. She fought for what she knew to be right, despite having enormous amounts of pushback at the time. The world wasn’t ready for her but she was most definitely on the right side of history.
I enjoy cooking and walking, especially in areas with high dog concentrations. I do quite a lot of art, with a special interest in textile based art.
Making friends and feeling self sufficient and independent as a person.
Making the decision to attend UHI! It was a big move for me as I was very ill at the time and had never lived away from home and had left education, somewhat disastrously, a few years earlier. I decided UHI would be a good fit, never mind that I had to move hundreds of miles by myself to an island where I knew no one. It was a good choice, and while it didn’t go the way I was planning it worked out in the end.
I like living close to nature and being surrounded by places that remind me how beautiful our world is.
