The Highlands and Islands Students’ Association (HISA) is run by students, for students; we exist to make sure your student experience is the best it can be!
We want to ensure you have a strong and valued voice at your college and across UHI. Our team of Student Officers is elected by you, to represent your views from the classroom right up to the University Court! Helping to improve your time studying is at the heart of everything we do, we promote inclusion, celebrate individuality and fight for the issues that affect you.
Members of HISA are entitled to participate in the events, activities, clubs and societies of the Students’ Association. Members of HISA are also the only individuals entitled to nominate, stand and vote in both the Regional and Local Student Elections.
Each year that you enrol on a course at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), you automatically become a member of HISA if you are aged 16 or older and studying at one of the following academic partners:
Argyll College UHI
Highland Theological College UHI
Inverness College UHI
Lews Castle College UHI
Moray College UHI
NAFC Marine Centre UHI
North Highland College UHI
Orkney College UHI
Perth College UHI
SAMS UHI
Shetland UHI
West Highland College UHI
Students at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI are represented by their own Student Association, with HISA working with them on regional issues. HISA do still receive the same data from UHI for Sabhal Mòr Ostaig students at enrollment as we do for students from other Academic partners.
At the beginning of each Academic year (counted as when the student commences their programme of study) students will automatically be registered as members of HISA. You can, however, opt out of the Students’ Association, under the terms of the Education Act l994.
Any student who wishes not to be a member of the Students’ Association must inform the Students’ Association in writing.
